Eighth Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee
At the sitting held on 30 June, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee discussed the information on the misuse of funds intended to stimulate agricultural production and Information on measures employed as result of the Committee’s conclusions of 20 June 2014 on the situation in cattle breeding, veterinary medicine and the current situation relating to the meat export into the Customs Union member states.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Zeljko Radosevic read the letter of the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic in which she expressed readiness to work with the Committee members on reviewing the misuse of agrarian funds and finding ways to prevent it.
Assistant Minister in charge of agricultural policy Nenad Katanic asked the Committee members to help the Ministry representatives educate the agricultural producers how to improve production since, he said, Serbian agriculture’s biggest problem is extensive production on small areas making the products uncompetitive for foreign market placement.
The Committee members also reviewed the Information on measures employed as result of the Committee’s conclusions of 20 June 2014 on the situation in cattle breeding, veterinary medicine and the current situation relating to the meat export into the Customs Union member states (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan). On the occasion, it was ascertained that the Serbian and Russian service had different results on the Serbian pork exported into Russia making it essential to adjust them and urgently institute electronic certification of meat to be exported into the Customs Union member states. It was agreed to set up a joint veterinary inspection with the Russian side which would follow the future export of Serbian meat onto the Russian market.
Under item Any other business, the Committee members discussed how to remedy the damage done to the crops recently struck by hail and the raspberry farmers’ request for help in adjusting the buy-out price of raspberries on the market.
The Committee shared their suggestions on all the items on the agenda and by a majority vote adopted conclusions to be forwarded to the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic.
