Drecun Talks to UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca

The Chairman of Committee on Kosovo-Metohija MA Milovan Drecun met today with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca.

Drecun praised the cooperation the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija has with the UN Office in Belgrade and went on to brief the guest on the Committee’s scope and duties. The Chairman of Committee on Kosovo-Metohija informed the UN Assistant Secretary-General on the work of the Board of Inquiry which inspected the expenditure of funds in Kosovo-Metohija and the work on civic petitions and initiatives regarding the status of Serbs and non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija. He said that the Committee’s recent sittings were topical and highlighted the importance of the Working Group for the Collection of Facts and Evidence for the Investigation of Crimes Committed against Serbs and Other National Communities in Kosovo-Metohija.

“We have set up a single database on all the crimes perpetrated by the terrorist KLA, one not selective based on the nationality of the victims”, said Drecun.

He added that the only valid document for Serbia is the UNSC Resolution 1244 and commended the UN’s progress in reporting on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija because the newer reports are more objective than previously.

“Serbia is committed to a peaceful solution to the Kosovo-Metohija problem, but it will not allow any violence against the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija nor accept the establishment of any Albanian armed formations which might be used against the Serbian people”, Drecun concluded.

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca commended the successful cooperation between the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and the UN Office in Belgrade and thanked Serbia for its contributions to the UN’s work. Jenca added that UN Secretary-General Guterres had clearly stated that so-called preventive diplomacy would be a priority of its mandate, adding that last year’s focus was on the Western Balkans, an area which requires a lot more effort to achieve peace and stability. Jenca was also pleased to hear that the UNSC reports on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija were deemed objective.

The UN Assistant Secretary-General was also interested in the results of the internal dialogue on Kosovo-Metohija and praised Serbia’s belief that a sustainable solution can only be achieved through dialogue, a stance the UN endorses wholeheartedly.

The Chairman of Committee on Kosovo-Metohija MA Milovan Drecun briefed the guest on the course of the internal dialogue on Kosovo-Metohija, stating that it would result in Serbia’s initial proposal of a solution of the Kosovo problem.

The meeting of the Chairman of Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs was also attended by the Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade Simona-Mirela Miculescu.
