The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevski.
The officials agreed that the relations between the two countries and two peoples are at their best in modern history, confirmed by the excellent cooperation both on the bilateral level and within the framework of regional initiatives such as the "Open Balkans". In the course of the meeting, they also discussed concrete steps for improving cooperation within the aforementioned initiative, as well as additional benefits for the citizens of Serbia and North Macedonia.
Dr Orlic and Kovacevski stressed that EU membership is the two countries’ strategic, emphasised that mutual support in this matter will continue in the future. The National Assembly Speaker thanked North Macedonia for hosting the important meeting held in Ohrid as part of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. "Serbia remains committed to preserving peace, stability and dialogue, as the only way to reach a sustainable and high-quality solution. At the same time, implementing the state policy of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic at all levels, we remain committed to a common future and cooperation with everyone, to the unequivocal benefit of our citizens," said Dr Orlic.
Kovacevski said that he hoped for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, and welcomed President Vucic's visionary and courageous approach to dialogue. He emphasized that there are no open issues between the two countries, and that the reliable partnership and strong friendship between Serbia and North Macedonia is an example for everyone in the region.
In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed readiness to further parliamentary cooperation at all levels, as well as intensify it in the fields of infrastructure, energy and economy, in which the two countries are already achieving record results. Dr Orlic said that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is ready to contribute to the strengthening of overall cooperation by ratifying the three important agreements signed during Kovacevski's visit to Belgrade. He also said that the Law on the Confirmation of the Agreement on the Establishment of Cultural and Information Centres in Skopje and Belgrade has entered the assembly procedure, and would soon be on the agenda.
The meeting with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia was also attended by the National Assembly deputy speakers Sandra Bozic, Snezana Paunovic and Elvira Kovacs, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of North Macedonia and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman Aleksandar Markovic, member of the PFG with North Macedonia and Chairman of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending Veroljub Arsic, as well as the Chairman of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications Ugljesa Markovic.
