Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Committee Chairman Congratulates Serbian MP at Romanian Parliament

The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Aleksandar Cotric, congratulated, on the behalf of the Committee, Prof. Dr Slavomir Gvozdenovic, candidate of the Union of Serbs, on being elected MP at yesterday’s parliamentary elections in Romania.

The letter of congratulations highlights the belief that the excellent cooperation between the parliaments of Serbia and Romania would continue and that Gvozdenovic’s election would help maintain the identity of the Serbian community in the neighbouring country and strengthen its ties with the mother state.
In the Parliament in Bucharest Slavomir Gvozdenovic will champion the interests of the twenty thousand Serbs living in the eastern neighbouring country. Serbs in Romania are one of 19 recognised national minorities and according to the results of the popular census they are the eighth biggest ethnic group.
Slavomir Gvozdenovic is a professor at the University of Timisoara, well-known author and president of the Assembly of the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region. He has been elected MP to the Romanian Parliament five times since 1992.
