Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman at SEESAC Regional Meeting

The Deputy Chairman of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Aleksandar Markovic took part in the regional meeting, organised by SEESAC, on 21 and 22 June 2023, in Tirana.

The topic of the meeting was: "Strengthening parliamentary awareness and activities for more peaceful and sustainably developed societies - implementation of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to combat the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of firearms and light weapons (SALW) and related ammunition in the Western Balkans".

The meeting was held with the aim of increasing parliamentary understanding, commitment and action to improve SALW control in the Western Balkans, as well as the implementation of relevant regional and international frameworks.

In the course of the discussion, the activities undertaken by the institutions of the Republic of Serbia were presented, as well as the activities that will be undertaken in the coming period, which are directly related to the comprehensive reduction of weapons in the possession of legal and natural persons. In particular, the existence of the will of all political actors in the Republic of Serbia to make significant progress in this area, which would directly contribute to the building of a safe and secure environment where the presence of weapons will decrease, was highlighted.
