Bulgarian Institute of Politics Attendees Visit National Assembly

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic met today with the attendees of programme Institute of Politics from Bulgaria.


Obradovic presented the National Assembly’s work and the Foreign Affairs Committee’s scope of activity with a special focus on the parliamentary dimension of foreign policy. He said that EU accession is one of the pillars of Serbia’s foreign policy and that so far 12 of the negotiation chapters have been opened, two temporarily closed, while five more are ready for opening.

Good and friendly relations with the United States of America, Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China are also a pillar of Serbia’s foreign policy as these countries are world leaders and very influential in international relations, added Obradovic.

“Serbia is sure that it can fulfil all the obligations of the EU talks and we are thankful to the Bulgarian leadership for making the Western Balkans a priority of its Presidency of the EU Council”, said the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman.

Obradovic said that Kosovo-Metohija is part of Serbia and that some EU member states have made resolving the status of Kosovo-Metohija a condition for Serbia’s EU accession. Serbia had signed the Brussels Agreement in 2013 and fulfilled all of its obligations, while the Albanian side fulfilled none of its, said Obradovic.

The conversation with the attendees of the programme Institute of Politics, representatives of the biggest political groups in Bulgaria and the legislative, executive and local governments also touched on the public support for the European integration process, Serbia’s relations with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, the conditions Serbia needs to meet in the EU association process, etc.
