Brnabic: Series of Important Meetings in Budapest, Metsola Says She Will Visit Serbia Soon

Today in Budapest, National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic had a number of important meetings on the sidelines of the Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments as well as met with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who told her that she would soon visit Serbia.

"Tomorrow we expect a visit from the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and she said that after Costa, she will also visit Serbia, which is good news for our European integration," Brnabic said in a statement to the media in Budapest.

Brnabic said that she had a good meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, stressing that the meeting was important for Serbia because of lobbying to prevent so-called Kosovo from becoming a member of the Council of Europe.

"He is from Greece, so he understands all the details and the problematic of the matter. He is well acquainted with the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and he knows how disenfranchised both Serbs and other non-Albanians are in Kosovo-Metohija, but especially Serbs and also Roma," Brnabic said.

She added that Rousopoulos understands the situation and understands why any positive decision on the admission of so-called Kosovo to the Council of Europe would be absolutely unacceptable and a bad decision, but that it is important for Serbia to talk about it again at every meeting and to present all the data on how Serbs live in Kosovo-Metohija and how deprived they are under the provisional institutions headed by Albin Kurti.

Brnabic said that she had a good meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Cyprus Annita Demetriou and stressed that Cyprus stands with Serbia. "100 percent"

"They said that no matter what happens, no matter how much someone violates international law, Cyprus will remain a reliable partner to Serbia, will never recognize this fake state and will always stand by Serbia's side in all European institutions, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe," said Brnabic.

She added that she also met with the President of the Italian Senate, Lorenzo Fontana, with whom she discussed their support for opening Cluster 3 for Serbia.

Brnabic underlined how important it was that Serbia took part in the conference in Budapest and added that at the gathering one could see major differences in positions between Hungary and official EU representatives.

"It was interesting for me to talk with Hungarian officials, and of course our friends Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, about our further cooperation, including parliamentary cooperation," Brnabic added.
