Belarusian Information Committee Chairman Visits PFG with Belarus

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Belarus met today with the Belarusian Information Committee Chairman Gennady Davydko.


The Head of the PFG with Belarus Dragomir J. Karic said that the relations between Serbia and Belarus are friendly and traditionally good, evidenced in the numerous examples of Belarusian support throughout history. He added that the PFG with Belarus is the second largest in the National Assembly, currently boasting 100 members.

The Chairman of the Belarusian Information Committee Gennady Davydko briefed the members of the PFG with Belarus on the media company he heads, comprising five TV and six radio stations, all state-owned, with the Belarusian parliament as the decision-making body as regards its funding. He said that there is interest for project cooperation with RTS, as well as through the exchange of documentaries. Davydko opined that Belarus has become the place for negotiations and a symbol of peace in Europe, which his country is especially proud of.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Serbia, H.E. Vladimir Chushev, who attended the meeting, said that the Belarusian House of Representatives has a PFG with Serbia. He described the cooperation between Serbia and Belarus as very good, the basis of numerous agreements signed during the Serbian Prime Minister’s recent visit to Belarus. Belarus considers international cooperation very important, as evidenced by the twinning of 30 Serbian and Belarusian towns, a number that shows a growing tendency, said Chushev.

Dr Aleksandra Tomic, member of the PFG with Belarus, informed the Belarusian guest about the National Assembly’s activities relating to economic reform and fiscal consolidation, which have made it possible for the state top step out of the media ownership structure.

PFG members Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, Prof. Dr Branislav Blazic, Zvonimir Djokic and Srbislav Filipovic said that the relations between Serbia and Belarus have been historically friendly, and urged for more young Belarusians to visit Serbia, adding that Serbia’s efforts to join the EU are accompanied by the wish to maintain good relations with friendly countries in the east.
