Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Meets with National Assembly Delegation
On 17 February, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alena Kupchyna met with parliamentary deputy speakers Veroljub Arsic and Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Head of the National Assembly delegation to the Council of Europe PA Aleksandra Djurovic and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Belarus Dragomir Karic, at the National Assembly.
Welcoming the Belarusian delegation, Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic stressed the need to intensify the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries. He also underlined the importance of interparliamentary cooperation for raising the level of political, economic and cultural relations between Belarus and Serbia.
Deputy Speaker Marinkovic pointed out the importance of Belarus for peace in Ukraine and its impact on global peace, stressing that it also has a positive effect on Serbia’s position and its presiding over the OSCE.
The officials agreed that the two countries’ good political cooperation should be accompanied by dynamic economic cooperation and drastic increase in trade. Deputy Speaker Marinkovic said that Belarusian companies are welcome to venture on the Serbian market and that Serbia will continue to focus on improving the environment for new investments and entrepreneuring initiatives, adding that both countries share the same realistic goal – reaching 500 million EUR in trade exchange, which, however, requires hard work and more intense cooperation in all fields in order to be achieved in both countries’ interest.
Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic shared her positive attitude and personal commitment to the involvement of Belarus in the Council of Europe forums, while Serbia-Belarus PFG Head Dragomir Karic announced a meeting of Serbian and Belarusian entrepreneurs sponsored by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and a series of initiatives and potential investments that could soon be realised, adding that he would be fully dedicated to the realisation of joint projects and business arrangements.
