Aleksandar Mirkovic Receives Chinese Business Delegation

In the National Assembly today, Foreign Affairs Committee member Aleksandar Mirkovic received a delegation of Chinese businessmen from the province of Zhejiang, currently visiting the Republic of Serbia.

Aleksandar Mirkovic stressed that the two countries are characterised by the steely friendship that is at a historical high thanks to the personal relationship between the two presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping.

Mirkovic also stressed that the two countries share an exceptional interparliamentary cooperation and frequent exchange of parliamentary delegation. The Parliamentary Friendship Group with China, headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus, with its 102 MPs is the biggest in the National Assembly, which speaks of great interest in a constant improvement of interparliamentary relations.

Aleksandar Mirkovic thanked China for its principled stance and support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, saying that China is our ally in the fight for respecting international law. Serbia also supports the territorial integrity and policy of “One China”, he stressed.

The guests informed the host about the province of Zhejiang situated at the Chinese cost and is one of the economically best developed areas of China.

They pointed out that, in addition to the good relations between Serbia and China at the state level, there is also an excellent cooperation at the level of regions and that towns in Zhejiang have signed memorandums of understanding and twinning with the towns of Kragujevac and Novi Sad, as well as with two Belgrade municipalities - Savski Venac and Zvezdara. There is also cooperation at the level of universities, said the representatives of the Chinese delegation.

They also opined that the intensive business cooperation both at the state and regional level is of mutual benefit as evident in the fact that 24 enterprises from Serbia are doing excellent business in the province of Zhejiang, while 18 enterprises from the province are investing and doing business in Serbia.

Aleksandar Mirkovic stressed that it is very important that China, though experiencing a simultaneous economic and technological growth, is also pursuing a “green policy”, adding that the city of Shanghai is the best example of it.

He also said that China’s experience in the organisation of big events, such as EXPO, would be greatly useful for Serbia as Belgrade is going to host the event in 2027.
