The eighth sitting of the Children’s Rights Sub-Committee was devoted to a presentation of Save the Children, a UK-based organisation founded in 1919 and committed to fostering children’s rights and protecting children. One of its first projects was helping children in Macedonia in the aftermath of World War I. Save the Children has continuously been present in our country over the past thirteen years, initially on urgent assistance missions, and currently on development programmes, and drafting and developing best practice models in child protection.

Save the Children officials acquainted the deputies with projects on inclusive education of mentally handicapped Roma children, and prevention of all forms of violence and child abuse through preventive programmes involving working with children victims of violence and ensuring they are integrated into society. Special attention was paid to programmes aimed at preventing child trafficking, advocacy of Save the Children’s ideas, co-operation with public authorities and the non-governmental sector, as well as possibilities of co-operation with the Children’s Rights Sub-Committee.

The session was chaired by Zivodarka Dacin.
