26th Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy
At the sitting held on 17 July, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy talked to the representatives of the Union of Employers of Serbia about the economic problems from the employers’ point of view.
Aleksandar Stevanovic of CEFE Serbia spoke of the impact the income tax has on the situation in the economy, stressing that the tax fees are extremely high and the employers should be motivated to employ new workers, thus reducing unemployment.
Union Vice-President and member of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Trade Board Goran Kovacevic spoke of trade inspections and regulations and their impact on the economy. He opined that without cutting expenses and boosting the population’s purchasing power there can be no increase in trade and Serbia would not become fertile ground for foreign investment.
Dusan Korunski, Secretary General of the Union of Employers of Serbia, explained the economic aspects of labour legislation to the Committee members. Korunski opined that labour legislation should be used to award top-quality employees and underlined how important motivating employees is for promoting productivity.
In the course of debate, the Committee members shared their opinions, recommendations and suggestions how to address the problems the representatives of the Union of Employers of Serbia outlined in the study on business environment. They stressed the importance of employee training and the need for trade unions to participate.
The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Dr Aleksandra Tomic.
