25th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the joint sitting held on 19 November, the members of the Security Services Control Committee and the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee were informed about the current security situation in the Republic of Serbia by representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Security Information Agency, Military Security Agency and the Military Intelligence Agency.

At the proposal of six members of the Security Services Control Committee and nine members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, submitted in line with the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, the committees decided to close the sitting to the public.

The joint sitting aimed to provide the MPs with a full and comprehensive overview of the key aspects of the ongoing migrant crisis and the situation in Europe following the terrorist attacks in Paris on 13 November.

They opined that the security situation in the Republic of Serbia is stable, that there are no indications of possible direct terrorist activity, and adequate additional security measures are instated to ensure a high level of security of the citizens.

The MPs were informed about the possible implications of the growing threat of terrorist attacks in Europe for the Republic of Serbia, about the country’s response to the increased security threats and plans for the possible closure of borders to the refugees.

They concluded that the legislation needs to be revised to ensure optimal working conditions in the security sector.
