21st Sitting of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues

At the sitting held on 13 April 2023, the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues considered the following items on the agenda:

Committee Chairperson Jelena Zaric Kovacevic reminded the attending that the National Assembly Speaker had adopted the Decision on the public call for candidates for Ombudsman, published on the National Assembly website and in Politika daily on 11 February 2023, with a 30-day deadline for application from the moment of publication.

She went on to say that five applications had been submitted and the Committee proceeded to adopt the Decision establishing the list of applicants who meet the requirements for the election to the post of Ombudsman.

Every parliamentary group has the right to nominate a candidate for Ombudsman, thus the WE HAVE TO – TOGETHER Parliamentary Group, GREEN – LEFT CLUB, DON’T LET BELGRADE D(R)OWN, WE HAVE TO Parliamentary Group and UNITED – SSP, PSG, OVERTURN, SLOGA Parliamentary Group nominated Milos R. Jankovic, while the “ALEKSANDAR VUCIC – TOGETHER WE CAN DO ANYTHING” Parliamentary Group, United Serbia - Dragan Markovic Palma Parliamentary Group, Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Parliamentary Group, Social Democratic Party of Serbia Parliamentary Group, IVICA DACIC - Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Parliamentary Group, PUPS – Solidarity and Justice Parliamentary Group and FOR RECONCILIATION SPP – USS – DSHV Parliamentary Group nominated Zoran Pasalic, and the People’s Party Parliamentary Group nominated Natasa Tanjevic.

Having established the list of candidates for Ombudsman, the Committee interviewed Milos R. Jankovic Zoran Pasalic and Natasa Tanjevic.

Having interviewed the candidates, the Committee then formulated the Proposal of the Decision on the election of the Ombudsman. The Committee decided to forward the Decision Proposal to the National Assembly to be considered under urgent procedure.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Jelena Zaric Kovacevic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Marko Ristic, Dubravka Kralj, Milica Nikolic, Dr Ugljesa Mrdic, Sanja Jefic Brankovic, Zoran Tomic, Nenad Mitrovic, Vladimir Gajic, Dr Zika Bujuklic, Nebojsa Cakic, Aleksandar Olenik, Pavle Grbovic, Olja Petrovic, Ljubinko Djurkovic and Jelena Milivojevic.
