At its twentieth session, held on 26 December, the Education Committee discussed and endorsed the Report on the Activities of the Sector for Pre-School and Elementary Education of the Ministry of Education and Sports. In addition to deputies, the discussion was taken part in by Ministry officials. Special attention was paid to the preparatory pre-school period at kindergartens, opportunities to improve education for children with special needs, education of particularly gifted children, as well as additional tuition for children of Serbian origin living abroad.

The Committee discussed issues at the Belgrade Secondary School of Medicine, as presented in a petition filed by the School’s faculty. The Ministry was requested to inform the Committee, after 1 January, of measures implemented by the Belgrade City Council. The Committee also advised the Ministry to introduce provisional administration measures at the School when conditions foreseen by law are met.

In response to a petition filed by six private Faculties, the Committee requested the Council for the Development of Higher Education to report on why requests to approve the establishment of these Faculties were not acted on.
