20th Belgrade Dance Festival Presented at National Assembly

The programme of the 20th Belgrade Dance Festival, one of the five most important European contemporary dance festivals, to be held from 17 March to 13 April, was presented at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia today.

The announcement press conference was opened by National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic who congratulated the anniversary of the Festival, emphasising its importance and declaring it a prestigious event that the whole of Serbia is proud of. "The Belgrade Dance Festival is the envy of many - since its foundation, it has introduced us to over 200 contemporary choreographers, some of whom have already found their place in the most important encyclopaedias of artistic dance, and with equal attention it had introduced the audience to some of the biggest ballet stars of our time - from Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sylvie Guillem, to Lucia Lacarra and Viviana Durante," said Dr Orlic.

He stressed that the attention of all domestic and international lovers of contemporary dance is focused on Serbia this spring. "The Guardian, New York Times, Washington Post and the Corriere della Sera write about the Belgrade Dance Festival with equal enthusiasm. In the words of Philippe Noisette, ballet critic of the legendary Parisian magazine "Paris Match": "The Belgrade dance festival will surprise, disturb, amaze and move the public." Dear participants and dear guests, welcome to Serbia, let's celebrate dance together this year again", said the National Assembly Speaker.

Concluding his address, Dr Orlic praised the traditional cooperation the National Assembly and the Belgrade Dance Festival have been cultivating for years, stressing that it would continue in the future.

The conference in the National Assembly House was attended by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Maja Gojkovic, the Director of the Belgrade Dance Festival Aja Jung, Director of NIS Jelena Popara, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Plamena Halacheva, as well as the ambassadors of France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Israel, Greece, the UK and Deputy Ambassador of Germany.
