19th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 20 June, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee conducted an interview with Vladimir Curgus, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Bulgaria, and Rade Bulatovic, Ambassador to the Republic of Ukraine, before their deployment for diplomatic duty.


Vladimir Curgus opined that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Bulgaria are stable and relatively good, but that they need to be improved further, especially since Bulgaria is a neighbouring country, a European Union member and a country with which we enjoy developed regional cooperation. There is also room to further cooperation in the spheres of energy production, transport infrastructure and construction operations. Ambassador Curgus also mentioned that Serbia and Bulgaria have some open issues such as the issues of national minorities and the Timok river borderline.The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Ukraine, Rade Bulatovic informed the Committee members that he would also be covering Georgia on a non-residential basis. He spoke of the relations Ukraine and Georgia have with Russia, as well as the bilateral of all these countries with Serbia. He said that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Ukraine, established in 1994, are good and have no open issues. Besides, Serbia and Ukraine also enjoy good cooperation on the international level. They have established favourable cooperation in the spheres of military-police cooperation, trade, education and sport, said Ambassador Bulatovic adding that the export of Serbian products into Ukraine should be boosted as should Ukrainian investment into Serbia. He also stressed that Ukraine had not recognised the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.The Committee members went on to discuss and adopt several initiatives for National Assembly representatives’ visits, noted the standing delegations’ regular activities in the upcoming period and adopted the reports on visits and contacts realised.The Committee also noted the amendments and modifications to the membership of the parliamentary friendship groups with Azerbaijan, USA, UK, Italy, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia and elected MP Branislav Blazic Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Austria.
