Common position of both Committees:
Halt the reduction in numbers of UNMIK and KFOR

The session was held together with the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija. Besides members of the Committees, the session was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the chairman of the Co-ordination Centre for Kosovo and Metohija, Nebojsa Covic.

The agenda of the session comprised issues of security in southern Serbia and the return of expelled and displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija.

The chairman of the Committee, Dragan Sutanovac, proposed that the Committee on Defence and Security and the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija should jointly convey a letter to all relevant international organisations and institutions with the request not to reduce the number of UNMIK and KFOR personnel as long as the necessary security conditions are not met for all inhabitants of Kosovo and Metohija. Mr Sutanovac’s proposal was accepted unanimously. Nebojsa Covic said that the state had a plan for the solution of the situation in southern Serbia, and that the plan was detailed and included the return of displaced persons and de-centralisation of government.

This was the first joint session of the two Committees. Also, the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija discussed for the first time the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
