17th EU-Serbia SAPC Meeting

The National Assembly House hosted the 17th meeting of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC). The meeting was opened by the SAPC co-chairs Milimir Vujadinovic and Loucas Fourlas.

Vujadinovic stressed that this meeting is an opportunity to discuss important segments of Serbia's European Union accession process, which is the political commitment of our country and all of its authorities. "I hope that the discussion will help to better understand the overall state of the process, with different perspectives, which is precisely the idea of the meeting, exchanging opinions and finding the best solutions," he said.

The Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic Serbia Andreas von Beckerath, highlighted the National Assembly’s key role in conducting European reforms and monitoring their implementation. "The European Union has proven to be a reliable ally to Serbia, as was evident during the floods, the pandemic and the energy crisis. Today, we support Serbia in securing more diverse energy sources and better connecting it to the European energy network. We expect Serbia to accelerate reform processes and gradually reduce its dependence on Russian gas," he said.

The attendees were also addressed by Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starovic and Danish Ambassador Pernille Dahler Kardel, on behalf of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The discussion covered the state of play of the accession negotiations, as well as of clusters 1 (Fundamentals) and 4 (Green Agenda), with a review of the current political situation in Serbia.

The meeting of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee was continued on 29 October, and the focus of the discussion was Serbia's alignment with the Common Foreign and Security Policy, as well as the continuation of the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. In addition, the MPs also discussed economic development issues and other current topics.
