16th Sitting of the Health and Family Committee

At the sitting held on 16 July, the members of the Health and Family Committee reviewed the Ministry of Health Activity Information for the period January-March 2013, Information of the Ministry of Health and the Republic Health Insurance Fund on the options for medical treatment of children abroad and the Report of the Working Group processing the proposals citizens and organisations send to the Committee.


The Ministry of Health Activity Information for the period January-March 2013 was presented by Minister of Health Slavica Djukic Dejanovic who briefed the Committee members on the Ministry’s activities in said period.

In the ensuing debate, the Committee members had questions about support and funding for the medical treatment of children suffering from rare diseases, quality and control of foodstuffs and cooperation between the Ministry of Health and other ministries. The Committee went on to adopt the Ministry of Health Activity Information for the period January-March 2013.

Minister of Health Slavica Djukic Dejanovic also presented the Information of the Ministry of Health and the Republic Health Insurance Fund on the options for medical treatment of children abroad. Djukic Dejanovic announced amendments to the Rulebook to expand the list of surgeries performed abroad and covered by the Republic Health Insurance Fund. Said amendments will address liver and heart transplants for children under the age of 18.

Following a short debate, the Committee members adopted the Information of the Ministry of Health and the Republic Health Insurance Fund on the options for medical treatment of children abroad, by a majority of votes.

In the continuation, Committee member Nebojsa Zelenovic presented the Report of the Working Group processing the proposals citizens and organisations send to the Committee, stressing that, so far, the Working Group had processed more than 100 different civic petitions.

Prof. Dr Vladimir Djukic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Paja Momcilov, President of the Serbian Medical Society Ethics Committee, and Prof. Dr Jasmina Knezevic, Assistant Director of the Serbian Medical Society, also took part in the debate.

The sitting was chaired by Prof. Dr Dusan Milisavljevic, Committee Chairman.
