16th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee
At the sitting held on 24 August 2017, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee reviewed, in principle, the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Agricultural Land.
The Bill was presented by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimovic who said that Bill amending and modifying the Law on Agricultural Land amends the article stipulating that foreign nationals and legal entities cannot own agricultural land unless otherwise stipulated pursuant to the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States of the one part and the Republic of Serbia of the other. The Bill also contains restrictions concerning the acquisition of property, but most importantly deadlines start from the moment the law is passed and a national of an EU member state can have a maximum of 2 ha of agricultural land, added Nedimovic.
Minister Nedimovic said that the Republic of Serbia has pre-emptive rights over privately owned agricultural land tied in legal matters where the pre-emptive right is granted by the Government at the proposal of the Commission in line with the law.
By majority vote, the Committee members decided to propose that the National Assembly accept the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Agricultural Land, in principle.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Vladimir Djuric, Marko Gavrilovic, Zarko Bogatinovic, Dragan Jovanovic, Nada Lazic, Veroljub Matic, Radovan Jancic, Dalibor Radicevic, Ognjen Pantovic, Zvonimir Djokic and Arpad Fremond.
