14th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At a sitting held on 19 October 2023, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee considered, in principle, the Bill on Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment, Bill on Environmental Impact Assessment and the Bill on Risk Management of Major Accidents involving Hazardous Substances, all submitted by the Government.

The sitting was attended by gusts Jagos Raicevic, scientific consultant at the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Science, Mirko Popovic, programme director of the Renewables and Environmental Regulatory Institute, and Sreten Djordjevic, lawyer, who shared their opinions on the bills.

As the Committee lacked a decision-making quorum, Committee Chairman Aleksandar Jovanovic held the sitting in line with Article 72, paragraph 5 of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, which states: “A committee may hold sittings without the quorum required for making decisions, if the sitting is held for the purpose of a debate aimed at informing the committee on issues within its scope of work.”

On behalf of the submitter, the Bill was presented by State Secretary at the Ministry of Environmental Protection Sara Pavkov.

By majority vote, the Committee accepted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Waste Management in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Aleksandar Jovanovic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Prof. Dr Branimir Jovancicevic, Enis Imamovic, Zoran Stojanovic, Prof. Dr Djordje Pavicevic and Marina Lipovac Tanaskovic, as well as Danijela Nestorovic and Aleksandar Jerkovic who are not members of the Committee.
