12th Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child

At the sitting held on 5 December in Pancevo, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child were presented the child and youth welfare models in the city of Pancevo by the representatives of the local self-government.


Committee Chairman Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the reason why the sitting was being held in Pancevo is the fact that the city had passed a City decision on welfare and City decision on financial support for families with children. He stressed that the Committee wants to learn about the efforts all the relevant bodies and institutions at the local level put into improving the position of and the exercise of the rights of children from vulnerable categories such as children with developmental difficulties, children with disabilities, Roma children and children from families living below the poverty line.
The Mayor of Pancevo, Pavle Radanov welcomed the Chairman and members of the Committee saying he was glad that the sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child was being held in Pancevo. Suzana Jovanovic, City Council member, spoke of the child and youth welfare models in the city of Pancevo, while Gordana Nikolic, Secretary of the Public Services and Social Issues Secretariat, presented the Activity Report of the Interdepartmental Commission of the City of Pancevo.
Miodrag Radojkovic, City Council member, presented the Pancevo elementary and high school practices as regards inclusive education, while Lidija Panajotovic, representative of the Solidarity Social Welfare Centre from Pancevo, spoke about the level of development of fostering and adoption and additional local community programmes in the sphere.

After the sitting, the Chairman and members of the Committee visited Uros Predic grammar school where they spoke to the Principal and students and the Head of the class with a disabled student. The Chairman and members of the Committee also visited Children’s Joy preschool where the representatives of the preschool and Big Little association presented the programme for children with developmental difficulties which have been included into regular kindergarten activities.

The sitting was chaired by Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic, Committee Chairman.
