10th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

The Security Services Control Committee held its 10th sitting, closed to the public, on 20 July 2023.


The Committee considered and adopted the Military Intelligence Agency Regular Annual Report.

The Committee members noted that the Military Intelligence Agency Report provides a comprehensive and complete insight into the work and results achieved by the Military Intelligence Agency in the reporting period. It was established that in the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency carried out all tasks within its jurisdiction in accordance with valid legal regulations, in the interest of protecting the security of the Republic of Serbia and all its citizens. In the course of the discussion, the Director of the Military Intelligence Agency provided the Committee members with detailed answers to questions and clarifications related to the Report being considered, as well as information on global and regional security developments.

The Committee members were briefed on the activities of the international factor in Kosovo-Metohija, and on the occasion Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic underlined the importance of the recent meeting of President Aleksandar Vucic and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, saying that he expected a relaxation of the situation in Kosovo-Metohija in the coming period and reduction of tensions, reminding the attending that according to Resolution 1244, NATO is responsible for the security in the southern Serbian province.

The Committee members assessed that in the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency had reported on global and regional challenges, risks and threats in a timely manner and informed the competent users about other phenomena significant for the security of the Republic of Serbia.

The Committee members emphasised the importance expanding the network of defence attache offices of the Republic of Serbia which would improve the quality and efficiency of information of the users, as well as actively contribute to the advancement of bilateral military, technical and economic cooperation with other countries and their armed forms. Also, recognising the significant role of defence attache offices, the members of the Committee expressed a unified position to provide full support for the opening of new defence attache offices in accordance with the foreign policy interests of the Republic of Serbia.

The Committee positively assessed the efforts of the Military Intelligence Agency to continuously improve bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partner services in very complex global and regional conditions, enabling a more efficient verification of data and information and contributing to greater reliability of assessments and strengthening of trust and cooperation between agencies.

Interagency cooperation, as well as the cooperation of the Military Intelligence Agency with other state bodies, was praised. This type of cooperation contributes to the timely detection of risks to the security of the Republic of Serbia and the timely undertaking of effective measures to eliminate them.

The sitting was chaired over by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Aleksandar Markovic, Aleksandar Mirkovic, Nevena Djuric, Ugljesa Markovic and Nikola Dragicevic.
