10th Sitting of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region
At the sitting held on 7 May, the members of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region discussed and adopted the Report of Committee Chairman Dr Janko Veselinovic on his visit to the Republic of Slovenia, 13-15 March 2015.
The Committee members also discussed the Information on the visit and meeting with Serbian students from the region studying in Belgrade within the Serbian Government’s programme “Serbia for Serbs in the Region”, and adopted the conclusion that the Committee endorses the establishment of student organisation “St. Jovan Vladimir Serbian Academic Network” which would help the students in the Programme communicate with the institutions and get in touch with other students in the region and the mother country.
The Committee members reviewed the request regarding and lent support to the 20th European Festival of Serbian Folklore of the diaspora and Serbs in the region, 22-24 May 2015, in Belgrade.
The Committee members were also briefed on the position of the Assembly of the Serb Self-Government in Hungary regarding the status of Serbian media in Hungary, and were informed on the visit and meeting with representatives of Serbian youth in Croatia.
The Committee members went on to discuss the Information on the reasons for and consequences of the non-election of director of the Office for Cooperation with Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, which was elaborated by Assistant Foreign Minister Dragan Momcilovic and Ministry representative Ljiljana Niksic. They said that the director is expected to be elected imminently, and they outlined the activities the Ministry implemented to improve the position of the diaspora and Serbs in the region.
The Committee discussed the proposal of Committee member Milan Stevanovic to set up a database of the diaspora, concluded that it would be a good idea and asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send information on the data that could be used as a base for it within 60 days
Committee Chairman Dr Janko Veselinovic congratulated the editor of Radio Belgrade 1 programme for the diaspora Dusan Gligorijevic and the editor of the show “Veceras zajedno” (Together tonight) Zorana Bokan on the 45th anniversary of the show and presented them with the Committee’s letter of thanks for their work.
