Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The oldest international parliamentary organization (founded in 1889); represents the biggest forum where parliamentarians can discuss peace and cooperation among nations; it serves to improve the concept of representational democracy, establishment of contacts, cooperation and exchange of experiences among the Parliaments and parliamentarians; reviews issues of international importance, protection and promotion of human rights.

Plenary sessions are convened twice a year: the spring session held in one of the member states, and the fall session held in Geneva. During the sessions, meetings of working bodies are organized.
Our country has been a full member since 1891.

Universal Declaration on Democracy (video)

The National Assembly hosted the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, 13 – 17 October 2019, attended by 150 parliamentary delegations from around the world, among them 77 parliament speakers and 60 deputy speakers. The 141st IPU Assembly adopted the Belgrade Declaration presented by Mladen Grujic, member of the National Assembly delegation to the IPU and IPU Executive Committee.


Latest activities

  • National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic headed the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the 147th IPU Assembly in Luanda, Angola, from 23 to 27 October 2023.

  • MPs Marina Ragus and Branimir Jovanovic took part in the Second World Summit of the Committees of the Future, held in Montevideo, 25 to 27 September 2023, co-organised by the Parliament of Uruguay and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

  • A delegation of the National Assembly’s Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality comprising Committee Chairman Dr Muamer Bacevac, and Committee members Sandra Jokovic and Dr Danijela Grujic, took part in the parliamentary conference on interfaith dialogue, co-organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco, entitled: Working Together for Our Common Future, in Marrakesh, 13 – 15 June 2023.

  • The 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was held on 11-15 March 2023, in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The National Assembly delegation comprised Snezana Paunovic, Milan Radin, Nikola Dragicevic and Sanda Raskovic Ivic, as well as the National Assembly Secretary General Srdjan Smiljanic. In the course of the assembly, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic was elected member of the Bureau of the IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians.

  • Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child Slavica Radovanovic and Committee members Andrijana Avramov and Milica Nikolic took part in a panel discussion on children's rights co-organised by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on 6 February 2023.

  • The National Assembly delegation took part in the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Kigali, Rwanda, 11 – 15 October 2022. The delegation headed by National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic comprised National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic, MPs Lav-Grigorije Pajkic, Sanda Raskovic Ivic and Nikola Dragicevic, as well as National Assembly Secretary General Srdjan Smiljanic.
