Women MPs Take Part in 18th Cetinje Parliamentary Forum

MPs Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic and Biljana Hasanovic Korac, members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, took part in the 18th Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, 7-9 June 2015, organised by the Parliament of Montenegro, with the topic “Women in Business”.

Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, as a regional parliamentary cooperation initiative, was attended by representatives of committees in charge of gender equality, economy and finance, as well as representatives of governments, local self-governments, international organisations and others.

The two-day meeting of the parliamentary initiative was divided into three sessions, first of which focused on the planned and achieved results as regards the inclusion of women in business.

The second session was dedicated to the role of self-government in the development of women business, and the third session the participants were presented positive practice and recommendations for the development of women entrepreneurship.

Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic said that, speaking of human rights, gender equality is an issue of particular importance, while the economic empowerment of women and women entrepreneurship is an unavoidable topic and a prerequisite for full equality between women and men. She mentioned some of the activities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality relating to the topic. As a very useful mechanism, she emphasised holding sittings outside of the Assembly headquarters so as to learn about the activities and measures employed at the local self-government level, and mentioned the recent sitting in Sjenica dedicated to the economic status of women at the local level

Biljana Hasanovic Korac spoke of the participation of women in political life and decision-making, highlighting the composition of the National Assembly which boasts 85 women (34%) MPs, and also informed the participants that the women MPs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia had set up a Women’s Parliamentary Network tasked, among other things, with the economic empowerment of women.
