A delegation of the Bavarian Parliament today arrived for a two-day visit to our country, on the invitation of the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dragan Maršicanin.

The senior delegation is headed by the Speaker of the Bavarian Parliament Johann Bohm, and includes Deputies Heinz Kaiser PhD, Adolf Dinglreiter, Alfons Zeller and Heinz Kohler PhD.

A delegation of the National Assembly, made up of the Chairman Dragan Maršicanin, Deputy chairmen Gordana Comic and Ljubiša Maravic, as well as Deputies Aleksandra Joksimovic, co-chairman of the Serbian-Bavarian Commission, Vlatko Sekulovic, Svetlana Stojanovic and Radomir Naumov, held talks today at the Assembly with guests from Bavaria.

The cordial talks stressed both sides' satisfaction with the meeting, which represents the start of cooperation between the two Parliaments, and which will also contribute to the establisment of wide-ranging cooperation between our two countries. Serbia's position is now more favourable, after the Paris Club of Creditors decided to write off a part of our foreign debt and adopt more favourable terms for the payment of the rest, as well as after the recently held Kosovo and Metohia elections.

Besides economic cooperation, which is in both sides' interests, there was talk of improving relations in specific areas; support was also asked for in our efforts to build institutions, restore the country's credibility, approach European integrations and establish stable relations within the region.

Bavarian parliamentarians showed special interest in establishing closer relations in specific areas, and expressed support for our efforts in carrying out reforms. There was special talk of reviving and intensifying the work of the Serbian-Bavarian Commission, which resumed its activities at the beginning of the year; there is a mutual desire for the Commission's activities to be on as high a level as possible. Bavarian parliamentarians showed interest and were acquainted with work being carried out to make the Danube navigable again and with preparations for the rebuilding of the destroyed bridges in Novi Sad.

Cooperation of Assembly bodies in realising specific projects was agreed upon.
