Under Auspices of PABSEC Presidency, Gojkovic Attends Parliamentary Conference in Riga

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Maja Gojkovic, under the auspices of Serbia’s six-month presidency of the organisation, is taking part in the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Riga, the 25th anniversary of the organisation of Baltic countries.


At the conference, Gojkovic said that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation endorses regional dialogue as a means of promoting democracy and the rule of law and with all of its activities promotes the values of economic growth, peace and stability which are important for both the Black Sea region and Europe at large.

Gojkovic pointed out that the parliamentary component of relations is a significant aspect of addressing current issues, adding that she was sure that parliamentary cooperation, development of bilateral contacts between national parliaments and closer interaction between regional and international parliamentary assemblies would open up the way to a more efficient pursuit of common goals.

Gojkovic said that Serbia, within its presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, stands for the further development of regional cooperation, improvement of economic cooperation through new and realisation of ongoing projects, as well as for furthering cooperation with the European Union.

The conference is dedicated to discussions on parliamentary cooperation, quality of education and importance of fostering ties between education and the job market, combating unemployment among the youth, etc.

Gojkovic also met with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and Latvian Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece.

In these meetings Gojkovic stated that Serbia stands ready to improve overall bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as promote interparliamentary cooperation both at the highest level and at the level of working bodies, especially as regards Euro-integration, and thanked Latvia for its support in the Euro-integration process.
