Torbica and Komlenski Meet with MEP Petr Bystron

MPs Bojan Torbica and Djordje Komlenski met today, in the National Assembly House, with the Member of the European Parliament Mr Petr Bystron.

In a friendly and constructive atmosphere, they discussed current geopolitical challenges in the Western Balkans region, with a special focus on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, territorial tensions, the future of European integration, as well as the role of an increasingly important global actor - BRICS.

The officials discussed the violation of the Dayton Peace Accords and attempts to redefine the internal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which could have serious consequences for the peace and stability of the entire region. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of dialogue, respect for international treaties and respect for the constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The discussion also touched on the evolution of the role of the European Union, from its founding principles of cooperation and economic integration to its current position, where it increasingly faces internal disagreements and rising geopolitical pressures. The officials agreed that the role of the EU today is significantly different from its historical foundation, and that instead of promoting balance and mutual respect, unilateral approaches are often imposed in practice that do not take into account the complexity of relations on the continent.

They underlined the need to reset relations between EU institutions and candidate countries, as well as establish a partnership rather than a paternalistic model of cooperation. In this context, they also discussed the growing influence of the BRICS alliance, which is emerging as a significant global factor, especially for countries that strive for a multipolar approach to international relations. The MPs stressed that the growing interest in cooperation with BRICS is an indicator of the need for alternatives in global politics, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and sovereignty.

The officials agreed to continue dialogue and coordination with the aim of preserving relations between Serbia and the European Union and opening new channels of cooperation in accordance with contemporary global trends.
