At the request of 84 deputies, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, convened the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly in 2004 for Wednesday 18 August.

Mr Markovic informed the deputies that the submitters of the Request for the holding of the extraordinary sitting had forwarded a written statement withdrawing their former request for the sitting to consider the Bill Amending and Modifying the Financial Leasing Act, the Bill Amending and Modifying the Act on Mortgage Rights on Movable Property Entered into the Register, as well as the Proposal on the Nomination of the Chairperson and Members of the Sremski Karlovci Reconstruction and Development Board.

The National Assembly discussed the following agenda at the session:

1. Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act, submitted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia;
2. Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Judges, submitted by the High Judicial Council;
3. Election and Nomination of Chairpersons and Members of Agencies and Bodies Defined by Legislation:
a) Proposal of the Decision on the Election of the Chairperson and Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission, submitted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia;
b) Election of Members of the Republic Committee on Monitoring Conflicts of Interest from the List Submitted by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

On the first day of the sitting (18 August), the deputies discussed the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting in principle and in particular.

On the second day of the sitting (19 August), the National Assembly discussed the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Judges, the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of the Chairperson and Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Members of the Republic Committee on Monitoring Conflicts of Interest from the List Submitted by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

When discussion ended, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, called the start of the Voting Day for items from the agenda of the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting for 9.45 a.m. on 24 August.

On Voting Day (24 August), the National Assembly adopted the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act in its entirety. The deputies elected justices of the Supreme Court of Serbia, judges of municipal and district courts and commercial tribunals, as well as those of the Higher Commercial Tribunal in Belgrade, omitting nominees disputed by the National Assembly.

The National Assembly adopted the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of the Chairperson and Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and elected members of the Republic Committee on Monitoring Conflicts of Interest from the List Submitted by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

After the Assembly voted on infringements of the Rules of Procedure brought by deputies to the attention of the Chairman in the course of the session, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, concluded the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting in 2004.
