Acting President of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Natasa Micic, today held talks with a delegation of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, headed by Mission chief, Ambassador Maurizio Massari. Ambassador Massari reiterated the understanding OSCE has for the introduction of a state of emergency in Serbia after the murder of Prime Minister Djindjic.

The Chairperson of the National Assembly extended assurances that the state of emergency would be used to tackle organised crime and create institutional conditions for the functioning of Serbia as a democratic and efficient state which respects the rule of law. She especially stressed that the priority of the National Assembly in achieving this was the passage of exceptionally important systemic legislation which should soon enter parliamentary procedure.

During the talks it was underlined that the support OSCE has been providing to the Serbian Assembly was very important; agreement was also reached to continue the support and expand it with new programmes, in order for the AssemblyÆs work to become even more efficient and accessible to the public.
