The chairman and members of the National Assembly’s Committee on Justice and Administration, Branislav Ristivojevic, Vojkan Tomic and Istvan Takacs, met today at the Assembly the American legal expert Markus Zimmer and representatives of the consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton, on a visit to Serbia at the invitation of the Ministry of Justice.

Their task is to prepare a comprehensive analysis of court efficiency (for municipal, district and commercial courts, as well as the Supreme Court), and suggest measures to improve court administration.

Underlining the inefficiency of Serbia’s judiciary, where the actual trial work is not separate from court administration and trial preparation, both delegations agreed that it was necessary to reform the judiciary with the aim of making it more functionally efficient and less susceptible to corruption.

The inadequate financial and human resources of courts were also emphasised, while it was resolved that the creation of a new role for judges, as important and respectable social figures, was no less important.
