Statehood Day

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic opened the exhibition of "The Constitutions of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia”, launching the central event in celebration of the national holiday of Sretenje - Serbian Statehood Day.

The exhibition at the House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia featured the constitutions passed in the period from 1835 to 1903 (Sretenje Constitution, Turkish Constitution, Governors’ Constitution and the three Constitutions of the Kingdom of Serbia).

Opening the exhibition of “The Constitutions of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia” the Speaker said: “Pondering what the most important word for the state might be, some would say it is - the Constitution. Others will argue that Life is more important, that a Human Being is more significant, or that Justice is above words. I will leave it to the philosophers and theoreticians to find an answer. But if we were to choose only one of these words, we can leave out the most important one – Love for the people who on this day celebrate the adoption of the first constitution of its modern state“.

Slavica Djukic Dejanovic said that this provides the opportunity and need to remember Serbia's glorious state and judiciary history. "With the exhibition of the constitutions of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia, which is in itself a congratulations, I would like to congratulate the citizens of Serbia, on the behalf of the MPs and myself, on the Statehood Day”, said the National Assembly Speaker.

National Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic attended the Solemn Academy at the NARS House on the occasion of the Serbian Statehood Day.
