The President of the Supreme Court of Serbia, Vida Petrovic Skero and associates and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Oliver Dulic and associates, talked today about the current problems in the functioning of the judicial branch of government, the upcoming reform of the judicial system and the adoption of a set of laws in the field.

During the conversation, the President of the Supreme Court of Serbia stressed that for some years now, the judiciary has had trouble with the election and dismissal of judges, as well as with establishing an adequate network of courts, adding that, after the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and the Constitutional Law, problems of undefined authority of courts and uncertainty of the function of judges also arose. So that courts could provide the citizens with an efficient and competent protection of their rights it is necessary for the representatives of all branches of government to coordinate their work and for the state to provide systematic solutions for the functioning the judiciary, Vida Petrovic Skero emphasised.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Oliver Dulic stated that this year will be of key significance for the judiciary reform considering that a set of laws from this field will be at the top of the parliament’s priorities. He stressed that it is very important to maintain good cooperation between the Assembly’s Committee on Justice and Administration and the organs authorised to propose the election and dismissal of judges, expressing his hope that the members of parliament will take the importance of the existing problems in the judicial system seriously.

At the meeting, it was concluded the Serbian Assembly’s priority in the upcoming period should be the dismissal and election of judges and presidents of courts, and that the representatives of all three branches of government should put in joint efforts to ensure an excellent judiciary reform.
