Speaker Stefanovic Talks to Hellenic Parliament President
In the course of the day in Strasbourg where he is attending the Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of the Council of Europe Member States, National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic had several bilateral meetings.
In the meeting with the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Evangelos Meimarakis, both officials noted that the parliamentary cooperation between the two historically close countries can be put in a wider and more dynamic framework at both the bilateral and regional level. The traditional relations between the two countries were declared positive, but it was noted that economic difficulties have put parliamentary democracies into a new role of mediator between the public and the executive. The President of the Hellenic Parliament said he expected that the National Assembly Speaker would soon visit Athens and it was tentatively agreed that the visit should be realised next year. Speaker Stefanovic thanked Greece for its consistent position on Kosovo-Metohija and its support of Serbia’s progress toward the European Union.
