Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications Committee Chairman and Members Meet with Jordanian Parliamentary Delegation

The Chairman of the Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications, Ugljesa Markovic, and the Committee members, received in the National Assembly a delegation from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Services and Transportation, Dr Ayman Odeh Mohammad Al-Badadwa.

Ugljesa Markovic pointed out that though our two countries will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations next year, in the previous four decades, contacts have not been very intense and there is a lot of room to improve relations in many areas of mutual interest.

He briefed the guests on the responsibilities of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications, expressing his readiness for closer cooperation with the Jordanian colleagues.

Speaking about the development of transport infrastructure, Markovic pointed out that over 600km of highways and expressways have been built in Serbia in the past ten years, 700km of railways have been revitalised and around 100km of railways have been built. This has also given domestic companies great experience as contractors and subcontractors, Markovic added.

Ayman Odeh Mohammad Al-Badadwa shared the desire to deepen interparliamentary cooperation, especially between the two parliamentary committees responsible for rail and air transport and infrastructural issues.

The members of the Jordanian delegation said that the field of transport is one of the main strategic issues for their country. They stressed that they follow the development of Serbian railways and that the exchange of experiences in this field is of great benefit, as well as that they are aware of the importance of rail transport for a country's economic development.

The meeting was attended by Committee members Miroslav Petrasinovic, Vesna Savovic-Petkovic, Nenad Filipovic and Dordje Stankovic. In their conversation with the Jordanian parliamentary delegation, they also pointed out the impressive successes in the development of air traffic in Serbia. They also highlighted the results in the field of telecommunications, bearing in mind that one of Europe's most modern data centres is located in Kragujevac.

The officials also agreed that there is room to intensify cooperation between Serbia and Jordan in the fields of tourism and renewable energy sources.

The meeting touched on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the position of the Serbian people. Ugljesa Markovic stated that provocations by Pristina are becoming more frequent, and that the Community of Serb Municipalities has not been formed even after 12 years since the signing of the Brussels Agreement. He emphasised that Belgrade insists on preserving peace, security and safety of the Serbian population, as well as on preserving our historical and cultural heritage in Kosovo-Metohija. The colleagues from the Jordanian Parliament expressed their desire that a sustainable solution would be reached, one that would be fair for Serbia.
