Sixth Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child

At the sitting held on 6 December the members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child reviewed the proposal to organize a public hearing on the initiative “Our child – our decision” for the amendment of the Family Law.

The Committee members accepted the proposal and set March of next year as the month for the public hearing. The topic of the public hearing is giving the parents the chance to appoint a guardian for their children in the case of their death, which is at present not regulated by law.

To the public hearing, the Committee will invite the directors of social welfare centres, members of the National Assembly’s Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, Women’s Parliamentary Network, Children’s Rights Council, ministries, NGOs active in the field and other relevant bodies.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Deputy Chairperson Nada Lazic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Marko Djuric, Sandra Bozic, Milija Miletic, Elvira Kovacs, Dr Danijela Stojadinovic, Dr Radoslav Jokic, Milena Corilic, Gorica Gajic, Marija Jevdjic, Dr Ana Stevanovic, Gordana Comic, Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic and Natasa Mihajlovic Vacic.
