Sixteenth Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 19 October, the Culture and Information Committee considered the nominations for the election of seven members of the Serbian Broadcasting Agency’s Programme Committee from the ranks of deputies, submitted by the Deputy Groups.

At the sitting held on 19 October, the Culture and Information Committee considered the nominations for the election of seven members of the Serbian Broadcasting Agency’s Programme Committee from the ranks of deputies, submitted by the Deputy Groups.

As the Broadcasting Act does not designate the authorised nominator for the election of Programme Committee members elected by the National Assembly from the ranks of deputies, the Culture and Information Committee unanimously established a list containing seven candidates nominated by the Deputy Groups. It also accepted the list proposal containing 12 candidates nominated by the Council of the Republic Broadcasting Agency and concluded to forward the joint 19-candidate list to the National Assembly proposing it be considered under urgent procedure so that the Programme Committee may commence work as soon as possible.

The Committee also considered the candidate lists for the election of member of the Republic Broadcasting Agency Council submitted by domestic non-government organisations, and, by a majority of votes, established a two-candidate list containing Goran Pekovic and Milan Vitezovic. The Committee shall forward the established two-candidate list to the National Assembly as the appropriate conditions have been met to launch the election procedure of one member of the Republic Broadcasting Agency Council from the ranks of domestic non-government organisations and civic associations dealing with the protection of freedom of speech, national and ethnic minority rights and children’s rights, for a six-year period. The Committee also concluded to propose that the National Assembly consider the candidate list under urgent procedure so as to enable the Council’s unimpeded work in full composition.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Vesna Marjanovic.
