Seventh Sitting of the Finance Committee

The Finance Committee held its seventh sitting on 30 October, chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Jorgovanka Tabakovic.

The Finance Committee held its seventh sitting on 30 October, chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Jorgovanka Tabakovic. The Committee members discussed the Report on the control of financial statements of political parties for 2006, composed by the Working group formed by the Decision of the Finance Committee at the sixth sitting held on 24 September 2007.

The sitting was attended by the Minister of Finance, Mirko Cvetkovic.

The Committee members exchanged opinions on the Report on the control of financial statements of political parties for 2006 and returned the report to the Working group to be completed. The Committee members agreed to forward a request to the Ministry of Finance to submit information on the budgetary means paid to the political parties.

Minister of Finance, Mirko Cvetkovic pointed out that two laws form the basis of determining the fee for political parties, one defining the accounting methodology and another defining the figure available for expenditure. He added that the Ministry believes that there is no legal basis for the return of the surfeit of means paid to the political parties, since they had already been allotted. He stated that a systematic means must be found in order to prevent such a situation from repeating.

The Committee brought a Decision that the Working group be extended by representatives of all political parties and asked that the Report be completed within seven days, comprising the information acquired from the Ministry of Finance, so that the Committee members may discuss and decide on it at the next sitting.

The Committee members went on to agree to forward a request to the National Bank of Serbia to submit to the Committee information and a report on the conditions on the Insurance Market in Serbia within ten days, because of the great interest of the members of parliament and the public.
