The Environmental Protection Committee held its seventh sitting on 26 January. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman Cedomir Jovanovic, and attended, on the behalf of the submitters, by the State Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, Dr Miladin Avramov, Assistant Ministers Aleksandar Vesic, Ljiljana Stanojevic and Jelena Cvetkovic and associates, as well as representatives of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Since at the sixth sitting, held on 26 and 27 November, the Committee adopted in principle and submitted a report on it to the National Assembly, the Bill on the Protection against Non-Ionizing Radiation, the Bill on the Protection against Ionizing Radiation and Nuclear Safety, the Waste Management Bill, the Bill on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, the Bill on the Confirmation of the Amendments to Annex B of the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Bill on the Confirmation of the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters and the Bill on the Confirmation of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade with amendments and modifications, at the seventh sitting the Committee members made the Government representatives several suggestions and proposals regarding the set of bills, so as to improve certain provisions of the bills.

In the continuation, Assistant Minister Ljiljana Stanojevic informed the Committee that on 22 December 2008 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the representatives of the Serbian Cement Industry Association. Ljiljana Stanojevic stressed that the signing of the Memorandum improves the care for the environment and social responsibility of the business sector.
