The Environmental Protection Committee held its seventeenth sitting on 9 March. The sitting was chaired by Cedomir Jovanovic, Committee Chairman, and attended by deputy and Chairman of the Velika Plana Municipal Assembly Dusan Maric.
The Committee members discussed and considered the Conclusion of the Velika Plana Municipal Assembly regarding the temporary storage of hazardous waste on site in Krnjevo, on the
Maric stressed that the site for the construction of the hazardous waste storage facility in Krnjevo was just hundreds of meters away from village houses i.e. cultural monuments protected by law – the oldest village school building in Serbia and a 17th century log church, which made the storage of hazardous waste a danger to the environment. He requested that the Committee endeavour to solve the problem and proposed that, for the construction of the hazardous waste storage facility, a site be found that would meet all the requirements set out by the laws regulating the sphere of environmental protection.
At the sitting that lacked decision-making quorum, Committee Chairman Cedomir Jovanovic announced that he would send a letter to the Prime Minister, competent ministries, Committee members that were not in attendance and deputy group heads to inform them of the problem and prompt them to resolve this and similar problems in line with the regulations in force.
