Serbia Doubles its Activities at Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe

In 2013, the Serbian MPs had doubled their activities at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.


According to the official statistics of the Council of Europe PA, the members of the National Assembly delegation had doubled the effects of their activities in this important organisation, making up 44.53% in overall voting in 2013 which made Serbia 13th of the 47 countries of the Council of Europe (with the annual average being 36.78%), while the participation in debates this year has risen to 70.24%, placing Serbia at number 15 (with the annual average being 57.84%). In comparison, the previous National Assembly legislature (2008-2012) averaged 20.36% in the voting and 43.076% in the debates in the same period.
Serbia has also been well represented in the bodies of the Council of Europe PA which has a decisive impact on its positioning and affirmative representation. This year, the Head of the Serbian delegation, Aleksandra Djurovic was a Vice-President of the Council of Europe PA and, with Natasa Vuckovic, Chairperson of the Council of Europe PA Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunities and Institutional Affairs, was member of the Bureau, the Assembly’s chief coordinating and advisory body. Milos Aligrudic is the Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on External Relations, Vesna Marjanovic is the rapporteur of the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media on “Endangered heritage in Europe”, while Natasa Vuckovic is the rapporteur of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights on “Preventing the introduction of undue limitations on NGOs in Europe”.
The members of the Serbian delegation are also active at the party level – Natasa Vuckovic is the First Vice-President of the Socialist Group, Vesna Marjanovic is also a Vice-President of the Socialist Group, and Elvira Kovacs is the Vice-President of the largest group – EPP/CD.
