Republic of Serbia National Assembly’s Security Services Control Committee Chairperson Meets with Republic of Srpska National Assembly’s Security Committee Chairman

The Chairperson of the Security Services Control Committee, Jadranka Joksimovic, met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Chairman of the Security Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr Nenad Stevandic.

This is the first visit of the Security Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska which represents the continuation of the cooperation between the two parliaments which will, they agreed, contribute to the improvement of regional cooperation in the area.

In the course of the meeting, the chairpersons of the parliamentary bodies exchanged opinions and experiences related to the parliament’s control and oversight in the sphere of defence and security, with a special focus on the fight against crime and corruption. They deemed that crime and corruption are the biggest challenges to security and all the states in the region should improve the safety of the entire region with joint actions and mechanisms.

Nenad Stevandic especially endorsed the actions implemented in Serbia to this end, stressing that only states which arrest criminals can be stable. The fight against corruption and crime in Serbia is good practice for the whole region, which will be one of the topics of future cooperation, said Stevandic.

Jadranka Joksimovic expressed her pleasure at the beginning of cooperation, stressing that regional cooperation, in which the Republic of Srpska takes a special place, is Serbia’s primary interest. She gave a positive assessment of the practice of oversight of the implementation of special actions and measures for covert gathering of information practiced by the Security Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska.
