Relations between Serbia and Montenegro Very Good, Example for Region

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic, currently in visit to Montenegro, met today with Montenegrin Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic. The two parliament speakers agreed that the two parliaments’ excellent relations are an example for the region.

Gojkovic stressed that the current relations between Serbia and Montenegro, two traditionally friendly countries, have lately been at their best, something the parliaments have played a significant role in, but added that there is still room for improvement.

“It is up to us to contribute to the relations and make our two countries’ political and economic stability and good relationship an example of cooperation for the entire region and to demonstrate how important cooperation is for making progress in the euro-integration process”, said Gojkovic.

The Serbian Assembly Speaker said that Serbia and Montenegro share the same priority – European integration, a process in which the two parliaments can cooperate and exchange experiences, especially the parliamentary bodies in charge of European integration, foreign affairs and the environment.

Krivokapic said that, previously, the wrong topics were the focus of the two countries’ relations, but now the relationship is exceptionally good and could be improved even more through parliamentary channels.

Krivokapic also said that Serbia and Montenegro are both on the road to Europe, where cooperation is very important first and foremost for the good of the citizens and it sends a message to the regions that all, even the hardest, problems can be solved and in the future serve as an impetus to overall cooperation and improvement of life in the region.

Gojkovic also spoke with the members of the parliamentary friendship group with Serbia, with whom she discussed the idea that Serbia and Montenegro should jointly access the European Union’s IPA funds so as to better use them.

Gojkovic also met with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, and will be meeting with Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, too.
