Ragus Delivers Ana Brnabic’s Invitation Letter to Chinese Congress Chairman Zhao Leji

The Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic Serbia, currently in Beijing, met today with the Chairman of the National People's Congress of China Zhao Leji, to whom the head of the delegation, Marina Ragus, presented a letter from National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic, inviting him to visit Serbia.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ragus said that today we can witness a once in a century transformation of the international community, as President Xi Jinping said, adding that the two presidents, Vucic and Xi, have recognised this historic moment.

"We can proudly say that we are extremely honoured to have been given the opportunity to work together with China on a common future. This is also a responsibility for this political generation, and we are aware that it depends on us what kind of future we leave behind," said Ragus. She then delivered the greetings of National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic to Zhao Leji.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic thanked China on behalf of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija for the country's clear position that the southern Serbian province is an integral part of Serbia. "We are here to support the strong will of National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic, to improve the cooperation between the two parliaments in different areas, through different committees," said Paunovic.

Zhao Leji underlined China and Serbia’s steely friendship and assessed that in recent years, under the leadership of presidents Xi and Vucic, relations between China and Serbia have leapt forward and remain at a high level. He said that the Chinese side is ready to cooperate with the Serbian side in implementing the presidents’ strategic consensus to deepen the steely friendship, raise the level of cooperation and improve bilateral relations. He reminded that China and Serbia respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty and said that the Chinese side is ready to continue to support Serbia to follow the path of development.

Zhao Leji emphasised the need for practical cooperation, given that the Free Trade Agreement between China and Serbia will enter into force in less than a month. He indicated that the Commission should be used as a platform for cooperation at other levels of legislative institutions. He opined that the direct connection between the MPs and the citizens can openly contribute to the improvement of cooperation between the two countries.

Zhao Leji sent his greetings to National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic and gave a positive response to her invitation to visit Serbia.
