Protest Against Announced Demolition of Church in Pristina

The participants of the international conference on “Dignity, freedom and human rights: Christian dimension”, organised by the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations in Slovenia, appealed to Pristina city authorities not to demolish the Temple of Christ the Saviour in the centre of Pristina.

In the closing statement of the gathering and the letter sent to Pristina, the participants of the conference stress that the demolition of the unfinished Orthodox Temple would be a crime against civilisation and religion, appealing to the authorities not to go through with their intent.

The appeal was adopted at the proposal of Aleksandar Cotric, MP at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Head of the parliamentary delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.

The eighty participants of the international conference, coming from 24 countries, among them MPs from Serbia, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republic of Srpska), Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Palestine and Armenia, bishops, clergymen, professors and representatives of international organisations also addressed the Montenegrin authorities protesting the country’s decision to exile Velibor Dzomic, priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The conference opened in Ljubljana two days ago in the presence of Slovenian Parliament Speaker Milan Brglez, Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovic and Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana.
