At the solemn, 100th session of the Council for Vocational and Adult Education, the Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic stressed that in the previous period Serbia has achieved significant results in the fields of education and upbringing.
He reminded the attending that the Institute for Artificial Intelligence was built in Novi Sad, making Serbia the only country outside the European Union with an institution of this kind. Serbia also introduced the subject "Artificial Intelligence" in primary schools, thus becoming one of 11 countries in the world to do so.
Five science and technology parks have been built – in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, Cacak and Kragujevac, where one of the largest data centres in this part of Europe has also been opened. The construction of the BIO 4 campus in Belgrade is also underway, which will include seven faculties, nine institutes, numerous laboratories, museums and libraries.
Atlagic particularly highlighted the successes of elementary and secondary school students in international competitions and thanked them, as well as their teachers, for promoting Serbia's knowledge and reputation throughout the world.
He also emphasised the importance of continuously improving and strengthening the adult education system, stressing that the National Assembly will always be a strong supporter of this process.
The topic of the solemn session was “Quality vocational and adult education – prerequisite of economic growth” and it gathered representatives of relevant institutions who contributed to the development of the field with their participation in the discussions.
