The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Russia Igor Braunovic and the PFG members met today with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation headed by Yelena Afanasyeva, Head of the Group for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Igor Braunovic assessed that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation are well developed and that there is a traditional friendship between our two states and two peoples, which has been raised to an even higher level by the signing of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation in 2013.
He said that the PFG with Russia has 98 members, which speaks volumes of the importance the MPs attach to the development of interparliamentary relations with colleagues from the Russian Federation.
Braunovic expressed his gratitude for the support for preserving Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as for the support in the reconstruction of monasteries in Kosovo-Metohija. He also pointed out that energy agreements, as well as economic and cultural cooperation with the Russian Federation, are very important for Serbia.
Yelena Afanasyeva highlighted the importance of the friendship that has been connecting our countries for centuries and pointed out that Russia would not change its position regarding Kosovo-Metohija.
She opined that it is important to maintain continuous interparliamentary cooperation and constant contacts between parliamentary friendship groups, which could give impetus to connecting regions and cities in Serbia and Russia and their closer economic, cultural and educational cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by PFG members Snezana Paunovic, Dubravka Kralj, Draginja Vlk, MA Ivan Kostic and Borko Puskic, who, in conversation with the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, which included MPs Vladimir Krugly and Andrey Chernyshev, emphasised the traditional friendship and the importance of continuous cooperation between parliamentarians, as well as the further development of economic and cultural ties. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.
