PFG with Greece Meets with Greek Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Greece Veroljub Arsic and the PFG members met today in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to the Republic of Serbia Maria Levanti.

Veroljub Arsic said that the relations between Serbia and Greece are at a high level and expressed his belief that interparliamentary cooperation will be raised to an even higher level by continuing the processes initiated through the work of the National Assembly – Hellenic Parliament Cooperation Commission.

Arsic especially thanked Greece for its support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state, despite all the pressures it faces, adding that Serbia expects a tougher stance from Greece regarding so-called Kosovo’s bid to join international organisations.

He pointed out that the Serbian people on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija live under great pressure and assessed that the only way for the provisional institutions in Pristina to return to the negotiating table is for them to be blocked at every point in achieving their separatist goals.

Ambassador Maria Levanti emphasised that Serbia and Greece have close cooperation and good relations at all levels, from the executive authorities, parliaments, to the close ties between our two peoples.

She pointed out that Greece remains committed to its position on Kosovo-Metohija and stressed that it advocates for the normalisation of relations and the implementation of the obligations assumed under the Brussels Agreement.

The meeting was attended by a large number of members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, which is one of the largest in the National Assembly, and MPs from Kosovo-Metohija, Danijela Nikolic and Goran Rakic, took the opportunity to inform Ambassador Levanti in more detail about the difficult conditions under which Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija live, the daily threat to their human rights, and the inability of Serbs expelled in 1999 to return to their homes.

PFG Head Veroljub Arsic, presented Ambassador Marija Levanti with a letter of invitation for the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia to visit the Republic of Serbia with a delegation, as the next step towards continuing interparliamentary cooperation and improving Serbian-Greek relations.
